To start, you must go to the World Community Grid's Join Now page to download the software or click on the following link.

Download the World Community Grid software to run FightAIDS@Home Phase 2

After you have downloaded the software, you must select which projects you want to run.

As of January 2016, the World Community Grid is running 5 active research projects including FightAIDS@Home Phase 2. Volunteered resources are split among all available projects by default. Volunteers have the ability to choose to which projects they participate by opting out of other projects.

To opt out of one or more projects, first login to the WCG site. Then

  1. Click on the My Contribution tab on the top menu.
  2. Select the My Projects link on the left menu.
  3. Under Available Projects, uncheck any projects you would not like to contribute to.

Minimum System Requirements for FightAIDS@Home Phase 2

  • Operating Systems:
    • Windows XP, Vista, 7/8/10
    • Mac OS X
    • Generic Linux
  • 250MB available RAM
  • 100MB available disk space
  • 1GHz CPU*
  • Available Network bandwidth to support:
    • 10MB one-time + 0.2MB per WU download
    • 1MB per WU download
*Theoretically, a 700MHz single core processor running continuously for 86.5 hours would be able to complete an average Phase 2 workunit. In order to have a more flexible workunit schedule, a 1GHz processor or higher is recommended.

Note that because these WUs have long runtimes, it's in the best interest of the volunteer and the scientists that you adjust your work buffer to be less than 2 days (around 1 day is ideal). This ensures you have a fair opportunity to complete (the majority of) a workunit before the 96 hour deadlines.

Also note that volunteers get credit for every 10% completed of each workunit.
